Artist Statement of Inspiration

For the past several years, Lacy Buchanan of deLacy Pottery has been experimenting with form, texture, and color. She is inspired by the nature around her. She is fascinated by the color changes that occur in the movement of the ocean´s surf and how both water and land change where they meet. Much of her focus in glazing has been to capture this phenomenon.
BOWLS
There are so many options for shaping a bowl. For deLacy Pottery, the intended use dictates the shape for ease of use. Still, the fundamental challenge is to enhance your daily life by making the most basic of tools, the bowl, something to bring you comfort while enhancing your dining experience. The unique form and beauty of each bowl is combined with the earth it came from and the artist, Lacy Buchanan, that made it. When Lacy uses a handmade piece of pottery, she thinks of the time, care, and creativity placed into each detail as she enjoys the contents. She hopes that you will too.
CUPS
DeLacy Pottery is made with your comfort in mind. The handles are pulled into an ergonomic yet graceful form so that the feel and appearance are both pleasing. Larger cups without handles are made with finger ridges to increase comfort and prevent dropping the cup. The stemless goblets keep your beverage a bit cooler just by the nature of the clay body and their beauty makes drinking your beverage of choice just that much more enjoyable.
